How do you solve this? 2x squared - 9x - 5 = 0

First of all, let's put the second grade equation under the general form:

a*x^2+b*x+c=0, where a,b,c, are the quotients and x is the variable, or unknown.

Let's identify the quotients of our equation:

a=2, b=-9, c=-5

Now, we cand use the formula for finding the two solution of the equation:

x1=[-b+sqrt(b^2-4*a*c)]/2*a

By substituting the quotients with ours:

x1=[-(-9)+sqrt(81+40)]/2*2

x1=(9+11)/4=20/4=5

x2=[-b-sqrt(b^2-4*a*c)]/2*a

x2=(9-11)/4=-2/4=-1/2
